VW Snapys Competition

The making of my VWSnapShot entry

So in case you haven’t heard the Snapys Competition have started up again, and this time they’ve teamed up with Volkswagen Cars.

The Volkswagen Snapshot Competition, powered by The Snapys, is asking Instagram fans to express their creativity with a new, innovative competition. Volkswagen Snapshot is an Instagram-based competition, which invites users to submit photographs across four categories; ‘Abstract’, ‘Roadtrip’, ‘Technology’ and ‘Volkswagen’.

The prizes are amazing! There is €1,000 worth of gadgets up for grabs, along with a weekend stay for two with the new Golf at Brooklodge & Macreddin Village and a weekend trip for two to Berlin!

But the best part,  the winner and 11 other ‘Volkswagen Favourite’ entries in the Volkswagen Category will be chosen to feature in the 2018 Volkswagen Snapshot Calendar. All proceeds from the sale of this calendar will go to Pieta House, a charity that is very close to my heart. These 12 lucky entrants will also be brought on a once-in-a-lifetime trip to Wolfsburg, the home of Volkswagen.

So, with prizes like this you would be crazy not to enter, right? At least that’s what I thought and so I got thinking about what shots would stand out. I knew that I wanted to try some long exposure/reflection/light trail stuff with my own VW car and so I decided to head out shooting with the master of reflections and light trails, Michael Sykes (Insta: @sykes_36).

After some inner city shooting we decided to go for a more iconic Dublin location, the Great South Wall.  The Poolbeg stacks in the background with the city lights will help set the location perfectly; WE ARE IN DUBLIN. What came next was the messing around of individual long exposure shots using a very small and cheap LED.

Here are some of the individual shots:

I also took numerous long exposure shots with no LED light painting, like this:

I’ll explain why I did that later, but for now, looking a these I think we can all agree that they are nothing special, right?  Well thats where the power of editing in post comes in.

Layering these shots, one on top of the other and blending them together creates an image that blows your mind.

Here is the final Image:

Now this is a competition and in order to win I need to get as many votes as I can! That means getting support from of my followers, both here on WordPress and also on Instagram. 🙂 ***hint hint***
